Name that Domain Game Contest

What's in a name?

Timeshadows reminded me the other day that I still have revealed the actual title of the Domain Game. While I have had several likely candidates in mind since the beginning of the year, the real truth is that I am just not convinced I have a winner.

Here's your chance to help the project—and have your name up in lights.

Over the next three days, I will be opening the floor for any nominations for what you think the project should be called. We are looking for something punchy or evocative—something that captures the nature of the project. Preferably without an awkward acronym.

The results will be voted on by a quorum of Domain Game players, people close to the project, and myself. A winner will be announced here on Wednesday.

So what do you get if you win? Besides my undying thanks, formal credit and a free copy of both the final paper and PDF copies of the first sourcebook.

  1. "By Divine Right" or simply "Divine Right"

  2. As you know, CK, I still like the Domain Game as the title.

    Here's my own suggestions

    Wizards and Warlords
    Warlords and Warlocks
    Barons and Bandits-or Bugbears ; )

  3. Adventures in Futility: Real Life Sucks

I played Pendragon for a while and my characters kept dying without any sons. After the third character died without a wife or children, I made a lecherous Irish warrior who ended up with around 20 bastard children, ensuring his mark on the game.

How about a stupid backronym? Dominions Of Mayhem And Iniquitous Nepotism.

  9. Just for experiment's sake, I'll pretend I can only use one word - this will generate a list of words that could be strung together to focus in on what you want to emphasize:

    Legacy
    Heritage
    Trust
    Lineage
    Boon
    Largess
    Heirloom

If more than one word, then consider the second most important facet of the experience for the player and string it along with one of the 'first word' selections above:

    Power
    Might
    Control
    Dominion
    Survival
    History
    Politics
    Fate
    Chronicle

  10. Dominion is a Rio Grande Games deck-building game.
--I'd have used it for my Urutsk card game if it weren't already taken. I'll have to settle for Demesne.

    As for this...

    Game of Princes
    Sovereignty
    Seasons of Glory

  11. Personally I like "Hill Cantons," or maybe "Cantons & Confederacy" if you feel the need for an ampersand.

  12. Personally I think I'd just go with Domain. No need to complicate it.

  13. No idea what a domain game is

  14. Wow what a great range so far.

Sadly I have to rule out any title that's already copy-righted:
Divine Right (great old TSR game, one of my faves)

    Warlords and Wizards (Warpsawn Game)

Dominion (very nice card game that TS points out above)

  15. If we can have Labrynth Lord, can't we have Land Lord too?

    Also along the lighter side:

    Of Cabbages and Kings.

The Leadership Genius of Captain Harcher ( or Conan or Ivid the Undying or etc etc.)

    :)

Okay, here is my serious suggestion:

Power Play: Leadership and Machinations for Fantsay Role Playing Games.

Or some similar variation of the subtitle.

  18. Still mulling over that subtitle idea, to encompass things like patriachy that might not incluse territory management per se. Maybe
