  1. ...the folks who gave us the weekend.

Henry Ford and the medieval craft guilds? Seem a funny bunch to thank on Labour Day...

  3. The written call at the end says "Join in to protect your rights." Only 'protect'? I guess employees should be glad the movement was more radical early on. Is the labour movement now conservative? Could be, but then those are very flexible words. The issue has to be what's best for all of us.

  5. @ Porky From what I have read there has always been debate in unions over how much they should do in regards of who to protect and how much they should demand from management/employing class from the IWW's ideal of One big union and motto of "the working class and the employing class have nothing in common" through to craft unions who only have a concern with protecting the people who work directly in their specific field.

It would be a very easy argument to say that some unions, as of late, have become very conservative in nature. Making concessions with management to roll back as little benefits as possible in an attempt to keep the status quo for workers is a conservative argument.

  6. Let's roll back the clock to the 'good old days' of 14 hour work days with kids picking clinkers out of the coal.
